Best of Southern Africa! On this amazing adventure, you will visit the world-famous Kruger National Park, beautiful Cape Town, and the breathtaking Victoria Falls! Cape Town was recently acclaimed to be the most beautiful city in the world and Table Mountain providing one of the greatest views on Earth. The Kruger National Park has more species of large mammal than anywhere in the world and Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world – This is a trip of a lifetime!
Arrival:
Excitement awaits you as you board a flight from Johannesburg International Airport to Hoedspruit Airport inside the Greater Kruger Park. Your Jewel of Africa Safaris Tour Guide will meet you upon arrival and transfer you to Phelwana Safari Lodge. This is where you will be staying for the next 4 nights.
On arrival at Phelwana Safari Lodge you have time to check in and freshen up before your guide will give you some pointers on how to spot the wild animals in the bush and then you set off on your first bush walk in the wild with your qualified ranger. Here you can expect to see giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and impala to name but a few.
Arriving back at camp as the sun is setting, imagine sipping a sundowner drink on the deck; looking at the amazing African sunset over the majestic Drakensberg Mountains before dinner is served. Enjoy a glass of superb South African wine with a cozy campfire in the background, while your guide points out the Southern Cross star constellation.
We depart early today for the Manyeleti Private Game Reserve. This reserve is open to Kruger National Park, Timbavati Nature Reserve and the Sabi Sands Nature Reserve and has excellent animal viewing opportunities! This reserve is private and exclusive and only rangers in 4x4 vehicles may drive here and we have the opportunity to go off-road to get the perfect close-up picture!
We return to camp at around 11am for lunch and to relax before our second safari starts at 2pm. This is big 5 country so make sure your cameras are charged and at all times - expect the unexpected!
We return to camp at around 7pm and you will have the opportunity to freshen up before dinner is served!
You might have heard that South Africa is a world-in-one-country and today will bear witness to this as we depart after breakfast and to visit the breath-taking Panorama Route.
The Panorama route is a beautiful winding road situated on top of the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains which is the longest and largest mountain range in South Africa.
Highlights:
We will enjoy lunch in the lovely little tourist town of Graskop at the famous Harries Pancakes and we will return to the camp before sunset.
The day starts early as you depart on safari in the world-famous Kruger Park – where nothing is impossible! Your guide will tell you to expect the unexpected. The whole day is devoted inside the Kruger Park with your private guide in your own private air-conditioned closed vehicle. This will give you the freedom to stay at a sighting as long as you like.
Explore this vast 2 million-hectare wildlife haven, roughly the size of Wales, in search of the Big Five today - Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino. Our guides are experts in showing you the hidden intricacies of the animal species, birds, trees, insects and all aspects of the fauna and flora. Enjoy breakfast and lunch at one of the many stopovers.
We return to camp as the sun goes down over the African Bush. Arriving back at camp, freshen up and enjoy some more of the world famous South African wines while reminiscing about the day’s amazing sightings before dinner is served.
After breakfast and the morning at leisure you will be transferred to Hoedspruit airport for your flight to Cape Town. Your Jewel of Africa Safaris tour guide will meet you at Cape Town Airport from where you will go on an orientation of the City of Cape Town. In the afternoon you will make your way to the top of Table Mountain with the cable car. From Table Mountain, spectacular views of the city, the Peninsula and Robben Island will leave you in awe.
You will have the opportunity to enjoy dinner at one of the various excellent restaurants the V&A Waterfront has to offer. Please ask you guide for suggestions.
Depart after breakfast for Houtbay where you will embark on a 45-minute boat trip to Duiker Island to visit a large seal colony. The extremely skilled skipper will guide the boat to almost touching distance of the thousands of seals feeding and playing in the stunning turquoise waters.
Next, embark on a breath-taking drive, known as the Chapman's Peak Drive. This drive hugs the near-vertical face of Chapman's Peak, from Houtbay to Noordhoek.
The road leads to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve where we visit Cape Point and Dias Beach. On the return journey to Cape Town we visit Boulders Beach, an attractive secluded haven comprising of huge round rocks on a sandy shore. The boulders are ideal vantage points to watch the colony of African penguins.
The afternoon is spent at leisure at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
We leave Cape Town behind and take a 40-minute drive to the Cape wine lands where we devote some time to exploring the town of Franschhoek. The French Huguenots brought their knowledge of viticulture with them and, upon receiving land from the Dutch East India Company; many vineyards were established and are today still producing some of the world's finest wines. After lunch, we will visit one of the local wine estates, where we will sample the fine wines they produce.
Simon van der Stel founded Stellenbosch in 1679. The town became known as "the City of Oaks" due to the large number of oak trees that were planted to line the streets. Upon completing our tour of the town, we visit one of the famous wine estates situated in the area.
We will visit a total of 3 wine estates before returning to Cape Town.
Check out after breakfast as your guide transfers you to Cape Town International Airport for your flight to the Victoria Falls.
As you descend to the Vic falls, catch your first glimpse of the “Mosi-oa-Tunya" - The Smoke That Thunders - as the local tribes call it. Our ground handler at the airport will meet up with you and transport you to your hotel for check in.
There is something to do for everyone at the Victoria Falls. Go on the world’s wildest white-water-rafting trip, bungee jump off the 111-meter high bridge, zip-lining the flying fox across the river, kayaking, do a heart stopping gorge swing, and many more. An activities list will be provided before you arrive.
A complimentary sunset boat cruise on the Zambezi River is the perfect way to end the day. Drinks and snacks are included and you might get the chance to see hippo, crocodile and elephant!
Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast before the day starts. You have tour of the majestic Victoria Falls today with your qualified guide. He will pick you up from your hotel and show you the falls up close. This tour is quite fascinating as you learn more about one of the 7 natural wonders of the world!
David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16 November 1855, from what is now known as Livingstone Island, one of two land masses in the middle of the river, immediately upstream from the falls on the Zambian side. Livingstone named his discovery in honour of Queen Victoria of Britain.
After your guided tour the rest of the day will be at leisure before dinner is served. Enjoy an unforgettable evening at The Boma Restaurant. Aromas of local dishes and game meat on the barbeque fill the restaurant. Enjoy a delicious dinner followed by an interactive drum show.
After breakfast, you have the morning at leisure before you will be transferred to the airport in Victoria Falls for your flight back to Johannesburg, remembering all to well the amazing experience you had the last 10 days!
